Notes on Completing the DRTS Form for NHGRI Investigators
NHGRI investigators should consider the following points when filling out the "Protocol-Specific Reimbursement Rate" box of the the Designation of Reimbursement for Travel and Subsistence (DRTS) Form:
- Air/Train Travel: Most NHGRI patient-subjects travel on 100% government rate. If you are not paying for their trip please put in 0% (or else the patient-subjects will automatically be reimbursed at the government rate.)
- Local Transportation: Most NHGRI patient-subjects are not reimbursed for local travel except under extenuating circumstances.
- Long Distance Transportation: Most NHGRI patient-subjects are reimbursed the government rate mileage in long distance travel.
- Meals: Although we have been reimbursing $20/day for patient-subjects, the government rate is $64/day. Discussion among various investigators suggested that reimbursement may vary depending on the number of family members being reimbursed and access to a kitchen during their stay. Between $20 and $35/day seems acceptable but is at the discretion of the Investigator.
