Accommodations and Travel
Getting to and from Iceland is not too difficult. Icelandair (www.icelandair.com) flies from several U.S. cities including Boston, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Orlando, New York and San Francisco, as well as from many cities in Europe. In addition, Iceland Express (www.icelandexpress.com) flies to Iceland from many European cities and may offer the cheapest price. British Airways also flies to Iceland, particulary during the summertime, but only from London.
Keflavik Airport is located approximately 40 minutes away from Reykjavik and is serviced by Flybus (www.re.is/Flybus) and various taxi companies. The Flybus will take you to your hotels also. Attendees are responsible for their own arrangements for travel to and from the airport.
The city of Reykjavik offers many hotels in various price categories, from expensive to extremely expensive. Attendees are responsible for making their own hotel reservations and are encouraged to do so as soon as possible since many of the hotels are already fully booked. Hotel Revkjavik is offering us a dicount of their regular rates and will provide a single room at 13.500 ISK and a double room at 16.900 ISK, including breakfast. Those who want to take advantage of this must mention that they are attending a meeting at the University of Iceland.
Information on other hotels and guesthouses can be found at www.visitreykjavik.is. This Web site also lists restaurants, cafes and bars, and contains a lot of information on travel in and around Reykjavik. Another informative Web site is www.visiticeland.com.
This is an informal meeting to allow interactions between the attending scientists. No funding has been provided for the meeting so breakfasts, lunches and dinners are at the attendees' expense. Also, travel and hotel accommodations will be the financial responsibility of the attendees.
A dinner will be organized on Thursday, June 14 at one of the local restaurants. This will be a fixed-price menu dinner at each participants' cost. Further details on this will be provided as the meeting draws closer.
