Dr. David Miller is the Chief of the Scientific Review Branch in the Division of Extramural Operations at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI). The Scientific Review Branch manages the review of grant applications in areas of high priority to NHGRI such as research project applications submitted in response to cutting-edge initiatives, as well as program project grant applications and training grant applications. These scientific programs support the institute’s mission to improve human health through advances in genomics research.
Prior to joining NHGRI in 2024, Dr. Miller was a Scientific Review Officer at the National Institute of Mental Health where he managed the peer review of grant applications in scientific areas spanning the breadth of mental health research, as well as grant applications submitted in response to the NIH BRAIN Initiative. Dr. Miller initially came to NIH as a Senior Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Neurogenetics in the intramural program at the National Institute on Aging where his research focused on the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Parkinson’s disease. Before joining NIH, Dr. Miller conducted post-doctoral research at Massachusetts General Hospital examining anomalies in gene expression associated with the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Miller earned his B.S. in psychology from Indiana University and his Ph.D. in behavioral neuroscience from Rutgers University.
