Virtual Exhibit
The Gene Sweepstakes — or GeneSweep as it became popularly known — was a three-year-long, sweepstakes-style contest organized by British bioinformatician Ewan Birney, Ph.D., of the European Bioinformatics Institute. Scientists participated in the contest by betting on the total number of protein-coding genes that would be identified in the human genome sequence generated by the Human Genome Project.
Enhancing the Genomics Workforce
The annual Bettie J. Graham Leadership Award for Enhancing the Genomics Workforce was developed to honor investigators who have made a significant influence on the development of the genomics workforce. The award recognizes efforts that provide and create career development opportunities for researchers from all backgrounds and helping to ensure that researchers have access to resources within their organization.
Jobs at NHGRI
NHGRI has four position openings for Health Scientist Administrators (Program Director and Scientific Review Officer). Program Director positions will have a special concentration in informatics and data science and will be located in the Division of Genomic Medicine, the Division of Genome Sciences, or the Office of Genomic Data Science. Scientific Review Officers will reside in the Division of Extramural Operations and will organize peer review meetings for all areas of genomic research at NHGRI.
